The Importance of Child Gut Health

A mother's story about her experience using ION* Gut + Microbiome with her neurodivergent son

I wanted to write a review about the product ION* Gut + Microbiome and to explain how much of an instant and powerful impact it had on our son.

I felt it was important to give a little background information about our son and his progress the last few years, well before he even started taking ION* Gut + Microbiome. I think it serves to show firstly how much of a positive impact a good biomedical approach can have (especially on someone with ASD), but also how much of an incredible effect a product like ION* Gut can have on absolutely anyone, because if it can produce such impressive results in a little boy who is considered healthy and who had already moved off the spectrum prior to starting on it…

…I can only imagine what it can do for others with more severe gut and health issues.

Our son was diagnosed with severe ASD at 2 years 9 months old.

He had no speech, no eye contact, violent tantrums, lots of intense stimming behaviour and sensory issues too.  Now at 6 and a half years old he has recently moved completely off the spectrum, largely due to a complete diet change (GF/dairy free/sugar free/soya free/yeast & yeast extract free/no artificial colours or sweeteners-only organic diet) and moreover a very strong and comprehensive biomedical supplement protocol.

This aspect has been key and absolutely vital to his progress and development.

We did everything you can possibly think of to help him (and much more), all the regular treatments and therapies and many others too – speech therapy, OT, physio, cranial osteopathy, acupuncture, homoeopathy, HBOT, far infra-red treatment, ozone, pulsed electromagnetic therapy, photon genius therapy, LED therapy etc. to name a few.

We changed our entire household – from filtering the entire house water system, drinking water filter tap as well, non-toxic cleaning products/washing machine products, soaps, shampoos, fluoride free toothpaste, stainless steel cookware and glass only Tupperware and food jars, organic cotton non dyed/non-flame-retardant clothing, mattresses, bedding and pillows etc.

You name it and we’ve most certainly done it, and with that entire lifestyle change we had seen a massive improvement, to the point where he is not only thriving in a tough mainstream London day school but he has also recently been evaluated and has moved off the autistic spectrum.  

When we started giving him ION* Gut, we were definitely expecting to see positive results, especially as I read up a bit about it and the importance of child gut health.

However, we didn’t expect such a dramatic impact and so quickly too.

His speech therapist had previously conducted a complete evaluation on him earlier this year whereby all his scores fell within the normal range, except for one which was very slightly below the normal range at a score of 5 (7-13 is the normal range).

Our therapist did another full evaluation a month and a half since he started ION* Gut. It was her who flagged up his results as she said she has never seen a child jump from a score of 5 to 12 (upper range limit for a normal child is 13).

All his other scores that were previously well within the normal range also jumped ahead in every area.

In these past few weeks too his under-eye puffiness and dark circles have totally disappeared.

His energy and focus levels have increased enormously and very consistently.

This was the one last niggly area that we struggled to fix permanently and completely. Although it didn’t used to happen too often, he still did used to get the odd tired days when he would become very distracted and spaced out.

On those days, those dark circles under his eyes would be visible and he would find it hard to work up the energy to do even the smallest task or focus on anything.  This would happen about twice or three times a month, and randomly too, so it was hard to predict or fix as we were doing everything possible to help him and his diet and supplement protocol were so rigorous and comprehensive.

Since starting ION* Gut we have not had a single “off” day, even when he’s been a little tired his focus has remained very sharp, and he has been consistently performing at a very high level both in school and in all his after-school classes.

He’s in a very academic competitive London prep school and they have been delighted (and surprised) with both the rate of his overall progress and this recent sudden leap in development and focus.

The school have commented that he’s been mentally very alert, switched on and aware, something he used to struggle with.

Anyone who has a child with autism knows, that you often have to teach them everything from scratch (from academic work to social behaviour, cause and consequence etc.).

Some of these areas he still used to find tricky and didn’t ‘get’ things in the same way other kids and his siblings would instinctively get. In the past few weeks, it’s as if something has just clicked and all these connections have come together so that everything finally makes sense in his mind.

Even the way he has started talking and explaining things recently shows a level of awareness and focus that he used to previously lack.

It’s a strange scenario to try and explain.

All I can say is that I continue to be surprised every day by what ION* Gut can do and is doing for my son.

His progress and development are accelerating and improving exponentially, and it makes me wonder - if it’s doing this much for a child who is so mild, I can only imagine what it could possibly do for those who are more severe or who have digestive issues or other illnesses. It is something we won’t ever do without and we have since put all our children on it, we both also take it and I have recently put my own parents on it too.

I can honestly say we have quite literally tried it all and simply put we can’t rate
ION* Gut + Microbiome highly enough.
